We strive to understand our clients visual communication objectives, provide our clients with a comprehensive overview of material choices, and work together with our clients to blend the best combination of effective design concepts, suitable materials, and superior production.
Island Sign has grown out of my personal desire to do creative work, and to make a career out of my passion for unique problem solving. It has been said that to find a career doing what you love is to never “work” another day in your life. I feel extremely fortunate to have found that career for me.
Each project in this industry has a design componant, in the asthetic use of space & the communication challenge of maintaining clear and concise language, while avoiding visual clutter and excessive detail.
In addition to crafting an effective & attractive message, we often feel that the greatest challenge is to work with our clients to identify their marketing objectives, adhere to their current company brand, and to educate them in all the production capabilities to choose from in selecting the sign solutions that will provide the best value, while presenting their message in the best light, to the appropriate market.
Located at 355 Hukilike in the Kahului Industrial area, we have over 2000 sq. ft. of design & production offices and equipment. Stop on in for a free estimate or design consultation, & feel free to take a look at our showroom with a vast assortment of sample signs.
Over the last 12 years at the current location, we have grown from a one-room screen printing facility designing on a single computer. As newer technology provided greater sign making opportunities, Island Sign has evolved to include three floors of designated graphics workstations, spread over two adjacent industrial warehouses.
With technology as diverse as our new CNC routing equipment, our 63′ wide large format inkjet printer, cutter & laminator, and our thermal printing equipment, the computer network required to operate these devices has grown to include ten computers, spread over five dedicated production workstations.
In addition to the extensive computer generated graphic production, we have multiple fabrication & finishing environments on site. Everything from HVLP spray painting, hand painting, airbrush and 22K gold leafing is done at our Kahului facility by our own experienced sign fabrication professionals.
Here at Island Sign, our friendly staff is available 5 days a week to assist you with a wide range of customer service capabilities, design and consultations services, and the production of a multitude of standard and custom signs and related visual communication products.
Doug Allan, owner of Island sign, has come to the sign industry with a background in fine arts & architecture. After taking a position at ASI Sign Systems in New York city, Doug saw the same opportunity to apply his natural talents in art and architecture in the sign industry. That was 20 years ago, and Doug has been involved full time in this trade ever since. Upon arrival on the Island of Maui in 1995 Doug began silkscreening at Island Sign, later purchasing the company in January of 1997.
Doug was a recipient of the Kahului Rotary Club’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” award in 2005, and a two time finalist in the Mayor’s Small Business Award’s, in 2006 and 2007. Doug is a current member, and a past President of the Maui Executives Association, a member of the Maui Chamber of commerce, as well as the United States Sign Council.
